  • Alphacool releases a new improved D5 pump + xtremerigs review

Alphacool have apparently designed their own version of the D5, called the VPP755, the old model was the VPP655, or just a standard D5.

    Differences:

New cylindrical impeller, apparently capable of 4.0M lift height of liquid rather than 3.6M of the regular D5.
Shorter housing with laser etching and cool paint job.
    Black sleeved cables
PWM functionality and 5 step vario speed controller. Apparently the PWM signal will set it to the closest of the 5 speeds, no linear control.
14W instead of 23W under max load, and quieter then normal D5 as well. (apparently)
Should be same price as old D5's - according to aquatuning.de, haven't seen it on an NA site yet.
Not all D5 tops will fit, apparently some users have reported leaks with EK tops, however Alphacool say it is compatible with all current D5 tops (and it does work with their top)

1 got 5 - D5's currently so I got time to wait and hear what the end user experience is with these.

The overly large impellor seems like it could have balance issues and pro longed used might show these pumps to run hard one warm causing a shorter life span than a Laing D5. Probably closer to the DDC style pump for running life.

Just my thoughts, I hope these preform really well cause the competition is always good.

Yeah, I really don't see anything that would make me want this instead of a D5, especially given the D5's reputation for legendary toughness and longevity. You'd have to offer me something substantial to make me consider switching, and PWM wouldn't do that, since I'm happy with vario's or strongs on full blast.

Honestly only thing that I can see making me consider this over a d5 is the price. if cost is less than D5 then it will def have my attention. Im also not a huge fan of alphacools looks. not horrible but there are def a lot better looking options imo.

I have sample, except the outer form those have mothing in common. Long term durability is main concern here.

Basically it designed as a computer fan.
