  • Painting Gentle Typhoon Fans

On my 44 Magnum build I needed to paint the blades of 20 gentle typhoons ap-15's from the grey to red

First you heat up the label and peel it back

Then you see the tiny horseshoe clip holding the fan to housing

I tried to buy a proper spring clip tool but the smallest out there was too big for it
so I used 2 precision screwdrivers to undo the clip
out of the first 16 I lost 1 clip and broke 2

I quickly fiqured out I should have a massive magnet to help catch the jumping clips
and used a magnet tray to help and it worked great never lost any after that

Then you mask the fan spindles off

Then you start applying thin coats
    this is 2nd coat

did about 6 coats on each side on this set of 10

Then remove masking and time to reassemble

    Then sleeve the wires

    Tip

When you are sleeving the wires with a heatgun dont have the power cord behind the box of fans

they will hit the floor and shatter

then u will need to go buy more and repeat the steps all over again

      Great info Father.

I've never taken any of these smaller fans apart before so seeing how they are disassembled is very good to know.

Painting plastic can cause it to become brittle. This is something I learned through safety at work. This is the main reason it's against the law to paint a hardhat.

Thanks for sharing your mistakes with us all to learn from.

Thanks The typhoons are from a composite material not quite sure what its is
doesnt feel like plastic and is heavy
I used a plastic dye ...forget the name
              seemed to work great

Same happened to my San Ace fan. Server oriented fans has hard plastic blades, not cheaper vinyl of generic fans.

I also found it get better result if painting spinning fan. As you have extra parts now, spin it with hand and spray. Cleat coat is must too..

Looking good and I agree with the idea of clear coating them.

                          Looks good to me Fuzzy.

Did you clear coat that or just used a semi-gloss satin paint?

I just used the vinyl dye
product is for fixing car interiors
and amazing how well it bonds
seemed to absorb into the blades instead of just being like paint
but came in a standard spray can
I dont believe it will ever peel or flake
