So after printing the detail panels for the front of the ship I ram into a huge roadblock , which I took more video footage of than I did pictures, so it’ll all be wrapped up in a YouTube video when I’m done but basically the front of the ship just wasn’t working out , and in trying to hot knife it down to the size I wanted .. I wrecked it lol. Back to the drawing board!!

It was actually a blessing in disguise as it gave me the chance to try something new that I’d been wanting to try which is to use simple foam or polystyrene for sculpting or meshing up parts. In the following pictures I used the packing foam from a PC case, cut it to size and shape, sanded it, glued on my prints , primed it, added filler , sanded it, added EVA Foam and then plastidip.

Looks a little weird in this phase but I have faith, I chopped the bottom of the case off after this and will rebuild something with a little more shape to it, and start finishing up the top and landing gear.

    Wings are printed !

If anyone cares to zoom in you can see they were a 1D 3H print , these longer prints are new to me pretty fun though.

next step, clean it all up and start sticking pieces together! We got a ship to build !!

Okay we’ve got the front cannons printed and one of the engines etched and sprayed with a layer of filler ! A few blemishes on the engine, was kind of a learning curved but I definitely think I can clean it up going forward. I etched the details by using my soldering iron on the foam, while wearing a respirator, safety first ! Haha

The pieces for the front of the ship are printed, 2 of the prints were 19 hours and the third where I printed the bottom half as one was a 44 hour print!! Crazy hah proud of my little Prusa. Next is to cover these in foam and fit them to the front panel.

The foam, pvc, clay and printed parts finally all glued together, next step is to etch in some details, then it’s on to the wings !!

Once I have the wings built I’ll attach the engines and move on to painting (my favourite part) honestly these have been fun but i just can’t wait to paint them
and make them look cool hopefully, in foam form they’re kinda ugly haha
