  • Home Theater Reciever

Well it served well for about 15 years, but my Onkyo receiver finally went south. No more front left channel. Buying a 5.1 surround reciever back then wasnt too complicated. Now, with 4K/120, Atmos, DTS, .............., buying another receiver can be confusing. Budget is around $1000 +/-.

I am looking for suggestions for a new 5.1 receiver. I will take a 7.1 to get the features I need if required. Main source will be a PC. It will be for watching movies and gaming. I will list components I already have. I have a second PC that would get connected for friends/family to game on if needed. It is an X79 with a RTX 2070 Super. I will call this one PC2. PC1 is going to be the main source. So I need a receiver that can handle anything thrown at it for gaming and watching movies. If it matters, my 3rd PC may get connected at some point. It has a RTX 3070 with a i9 10850K. So I want a receiver that will handle the all the features a HTPC can offer.

    TV:
    Samsung QN65Q80AAF

    Speakers:
    Front - Tower 200W - 8ohm
    Rear: Bookshelf
    Sub: 200W - 60Hz

    PC 1:
    - Sabertooth X58
    - i7 930
    - 6GB 2000mhz Corsair Vengence
    - Asus 4GB GTX 1050Ti (is minimum GPU recommended for a 4K HTPC)
    - SB X-fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro

    PC2:
    - Asus RIVF X79
    - i7 3930K
    - 16GB 2400mhz Corsair Mem
    - EVGA RTX 2070 Super
    - SB AE-5 Plus

Brands I am considering by choice in order:
    1) Denon (looking at this one, AVRS960H. Is there a better choice? Dont want to break the bank though)
    2) Onkyo (I really like Onkyo, but there are rumors of insolvency. So not sure how much longer Onkyo will be around)
    3) Yamaha

Also looking for replacing my half-dead Harmon Kardon. Seems hard to stay around 1k, modern stuff similar to the level I had before is about 2k.

Denon AVR-X2700H is $1300 before taxes, but I like 3700 more.
