  • Deep Blue, reborn!

    Good morning fellow PC enthusiasts.

I have decided to begin a build log. I have been upgrading my PC for years, but relatively recently, a disaster occurred. Well, actually two disastrous events... that has led me to rebuild my PC.

The first event was caused by me messing around with PWM settings with my fans, accidentally changing the settings on the CPU header, which led to my pump turning off, and causing a CPU overheat, which caused the Apogee XL-2 water block to crack.

So, until I could find a waterblock I liked that would replace the one that cracked, I went back to air cooling. Then I got a job north of the 60th parallel. When I moved I paid a arm and a leg for Air Canada to ship my PC with me. They destroyed it. it was crushed so bad both Video cards (Asus Direct CUII R9 290X cards and yes they are old, but still were amazing) were damaged beyond repair.

SO, I have now rebuilt my PC more or less. and I want to overclock and also have it look cool. I consider hard tubing to look better, and I have decided to go for PETG hard tube, 16mm od.

My parts list is as follows... more or less. A few omissions likely.

    CPU:
AMD Ryzen 1700 (goes to 3.8 with stock cooler, Want to see if I can get to 4.2 or better on water)
    Mobo:
Asus Crosshair Hero VI (base model, no wifi or extreme edition)
    RAM:
    DDR 4 Trident Z RBG memory 3200 16 gig kit, 2x8
    Storage:
    WD black 256 gig NVME
Samsung 850 pro 256 gig SSD
    Seagate Barracuda 3 TB HDD
    Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD
    Seagate Barracuda 500 Gig HDD
    Videocards:
Two Gigabyte Windforce G1 GTX 970's in SLI (AMD fanboy through and through, but not a lot of options north of 60 that are affordable and I could not take using a placeholder display card anymore... and I cant afford a Vega at these insane prices)
    PSU:
Antec 1300 Platinum (why the 1300 for a build that clearly does not need a PSU that strong? That PSU is from when I had a Crosshair Formula Z with a FX-9590 (NO SPACE HEATER JOKES... despite their truth...)and 2 R9 290X cards in crossfire... oh I definitely needed the power then, also it was on sale for only 150... cant say no then)
    Case:
    Enthoo Luxe Tempered Glass edition

I will now try to add photos, Ill start with before the first disaster, the damage air Canada did, and then the rebirth of deep blue.

While the one card does not look bad, It would not display anything. the one with the really noticeable deformation to the heat pipe would only run stable at 300mhz. I think the forces that were applied must of damaged more than just the heat pipes. cant believe the motherboard still works.

Construction during downtime at work. You can see the card I was using temporarily. The local shops in town didnt have any AMD cards in stock. so I bought a Zotac Gt 710 for 74 dollars (only option) and then strapped a 120mm fan to it since it was passively cooled. I overclocked the crap out of it and managed to get it to play a few games. But it was not enough.

                My watercooling parts.

                Remnants from Deep blue V1

Alphacool repak single slot 5.25 bay res
                Phobya DC12-400 PWM pump
                Alphacool ST30 120mm Radiator
1 3/8 by 5/8 fitting and a little bit of tubing to use for drain.

The new parts, mostly from DazMode
                NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 420mm radiator × 1
Ball Shutoff Mini-Valve Chrome - Color Handle Dark Blue × 1
                EK-HDC Fitting 16mm G1/4 - Blue × 8
60cm (24") SATA 2.0/3.0 Sleeved 7-pin 180° to 90° Data Cable - Blue UV × 1 (for the SSD that will be visible)
Crystal Link (Acrylic) Tube 16mm OD - 1m length - Blue × 4 (because I intend to use clear fluids)
and whoops, just noticed I ordered the wrong size multi link fittings. I ordered 12mm but went with 16mm tubing. I just emailed Daz though his website. Heres hoping It gets caught before shipping. This is why I should not order things after working a double shift.
                EK-AF Y-Splitter Rotary 2F-1M G1/4 - Black Nickel × 1
                ML Stop Plug Fitting - G1/4" - Black × 1

I got the splitter, and maybe this was a bad design choice, I would appreciate feedback. But I got the splitter so it will be on the outflow of the pump, and have the valve attached to that, so it can be used to drain the system as needed.

                  Welcome to the forums,
A g1/4 male-male rotating fitting you will also need for your valve, rotating so your valve is in the position you want in the end after tightening.

                            Greetings everyone

Been over a year since I updated it.

                            Why?

                            Hard tubing is well... Hard.

I ended up doing one single successful bend. Rather pathetic. Others make it look so easy. However I remain undaunted. I decided to get an Enthoo Luxe 2 case, and I am doing an entirely new build. And that one I will do a proper build log on.

mostly because of a motorcycle accident, I am off work and when the parts arrive, I wont have much else to do for a while.

Here is a photo of how Deep Blue V2 looks. Once my new case, and new parts i am ordering from Daz arrive, Ill begin on Deep blue v3.Click image for larger version

So, Deep Blue V2 as she is currently,

                              Crosshair Extreme V1
                              EK Monoblock
                              Ryzen 1700 overclocked to a stable 4.0
Trident Z RGB Ram at 3200mhz
                              1 Vega 64 Reference card
1 NVMe Western Digital black 256 gig drive
3 more platter drives for 6 terabytes in storage.

1 NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 420mm radiator at the top with 3 phanteks 140mm fans, exhausting at the top.

the other 5 fans are all Termaltake Riing fans, blue and are all intake. 4 in front, 1 at the back.

The phobya d-400 pump has been moved as you can see. we moved a few months back. had some issues with moving.
