  • 800d + hx-1080

I have had these posted on the Koolance forums for a while but thought I would share this here, especially since due to the pricing and exceptionally high quality of service from Daz is the reason I even have some of the parts I do. Actually found out about the HX-1080 before it hit the shelves and had a custom order placed with Daz the day it was officially released. Before this was using a 3.120 rad and was playing with some TK-123s and other fans but really wanted to make it as quiet as possible in the end instead of raw performance so moved to the larger radiator and low noise fans.

Apologizing in advance for image quality.

Flushing the radiator and playing with some fans i had laying around, temp reading in picture is totally inaccurate. Using the wrong sensor with the control board but needed something to push the water through for the flush. At this point I was still unsure how I was actually going to mount the radiator.

Insides cleaned up a bit and a lot more room to spare not having a 3.120 rad mounted on the inside. Some wires handing out connected to an auxiliary PSU for leak testing.

In short found some extra long standoffs with the correct threading and drilled a few holes on the side panel to make a secure mount. Didn't have enough black or silver grills to cover the whole thing and only have 6 of the 9 fans I wanted at the time. And forgot to order more with my last purchase.

The first 3 pictures are a bit older already but this one is more recent will all 9 fans being the same model.

I have only bothered to do the one proper test so far to see what my temps were like after installing this but my periodic checks have been very consistent with these results. Temperatures as per core temp readings with 1100T just shy of 4GHz/core.

CPU Idle = 3.5'c over ambient
10 Minutes full load (Prime 95) peak = 17.5'c over ambient

I had originally wanted to build a wiring harness to clean up the wires, and build a cleaner fan shroud however time and motivation at this point has been lacking. I actually even have another 6990 block and 6990 card that I have yet to install simply due to time constraints and things like the house coming first.

The parts I ordered from ColdZero are still in transit and I need them in hand to be able to finish planning the next stage of changes (should be here by the end of the week).

Instead of running the lines out the back I'm actually going to cut open the side panel and run the fan wiring and tubing directly through the side panel and redo my approach on the inside. Once the panels arrive I'll be able to take the measurements and figure out what fittings I'll be able to get away with that I already have or what I'll have to order. At that point make anther order via Daz for the pieces I need

The rest of the day is going to feel extra long.

The expected package just showed up. I should have waited to open it an inspect the pieces till I got home but could not help it.

Most of the pieces are plain except for the PSU cover piece I had some custom engraving done.

Got all except 1 of the pieces in since the tubing is in the way. Which is part of what I want to change. Quickly snapped away a couple pictures with my phone after installing everything but that one piece. I'm really impressed by the quality of the cuts and etching. Now when I have a bunch of spare time, time to start measuring and finish planning for the next phase, and get the other 6990 in. The only piece not installed is a solid piece that covers the back of the 5.25 bays & hotswap bays.

I think red cables and red fan grills are a little clashing. May be black tracer wire from GPU would be good idea.Click image for larger version
