Looked around couldn't find an actual tutorial but some images that might help looks like it be easier to sleeve the three wires to each end together.

Really nice build!! What did you do to get your system to see that GPU? I have the exact same problem which I haven't had time to trouble shoot. Thanks!

Mine was as simple as one of the pins came out on the 8 pin sleeved extension cable going to it so it wasn't getting proper power.
