  • Phanteks Evolv ATX build

    finally upgrading my main PC after 5 years. and the only reason was because I needed more cpu/ram for working with blender. I was playing modern games at 60+ fps, just didn't see the need like it used to be.
    1700x ---> 5900x
    16gb ram ----> 32gb
    vega 64----> rtx 2080

    the gpu being more of a side-grade, as blender doesn't support gpu acceleration on the older AMD cards anymore.
    Got the MSI 2080 seahawk as it was more cost effective than buying a card and a new waterblock, and also picked up a monoblock for the CH6+7 just because it was so cheap.
    there is also plans for hooking up external rads just to keep the sound levels down. playing total war warhammer 3 for 6 hours saw the CPU hit 80c and the water hit 39c on the old setup.

    Got around to drilling the holes for the passthrough and the new spot for the res, then spent all day cutting tubes. I modified a pcie bracket to allow for fan cables to pass though, both for the external rad and so I could ad an exhaust fan. This case only fits dual 360 rads if they are very small. I think these were 'black ice' rads but they were the only ones that would fit in this case I could find. even a rear fan wouldn't fit, and the rads will only work the way they are in because there wouldn't be room for the fittings the other way. there is also only room for fans on one side, but I'm going to put some thin fans in the top as well.
    what looks like an extra tube under the gpu is just acting as a kickstand. might paint it black but can't decide.

      i've got a quad rad and I found some old darkside quad fan cables for 8 extra fans on the external rad. controlled by a mobo header using a phanteks fan hub.

      external exhaust fan. I used to have the PSU fan facing up and it was my only exhaust, and it did okay with passive exhaust. After running for 4+ years the dust was very minimal due to high positive pressure, so I like to keep all rads as intakes. this is not the first time I've put a fan on the outside on a case, hence the grill.

      leak checking and of course the hardest fitting to get to was a bit loose and started leaking.

      looks the same filled as empty with clear coolant. not a big RGB fan but there are a lot of RGB components here and I just set one colour at a time. my XSPC reservoir has a slot to light up the central pillar inside with a 5mm LED but i've yet to find an RGB to put in there. I think it would look best as an accent colour. There are Darkside UV lights around the perimeter, used to have UV orange coolant but it faded quickly.

        testing out the 5900x, was idling at like 60c but after installing ryzen master it stopped boosting for no reason and went down to 32. played a bunch of warhammer total war 3, that used to get my system toasty but with the extra rad everything was staying cool. Still have to make a new curve for the fans as the bios was reset so they are kind of loud.
        one nice thing about RGB is you can find an interesting colour to use and match it thoughout the system. I'm mostly limited by the fact the case only has about 8 options.
