  • Ah! Algae!

So I've had this little pump/reservoir combo sitting on the corner of my desk for almost a year now.
I wanted to put it in the AMD system to replace the D5 that I am keeping.

I have a little bit of growth in there , and I've tried a few things that haven't really worked.
Any suggestions to get rid of this would be appreciated.

Keep in mind that it's just the reservoir and pump (not an entire loop!) that are affected since they have been without use for a long period of time.

Oh my Gawd I think it's alive ! Go to the grocery store and buy some ammonia that comes in a 1 litre bottle not bleach. Mix it down in a well ventilated place ( outside is best ) in a 50 - 50 solution with water, let it soak overnight and give it a good rinse. You may have to repeat it a second time but it should do the trick, do not breathe any of the fumes because they are very nasty !

ya, ammonia. its caustic, so be very careful. but it should work. I might let it soak more than two days.

Oh yeah I forgot to add that you have to flush it with clean water really well after. Soap residue can cause the pump to cavitate otherwise

Day 1: Algae hasn't moved with windshield washer :|
Going to shake it a bit and see if it dislodges.

                    Otherwise , ammonia time!

Glycol is poison and it kills algae or anything else, it does not mean although that organic matter will magically disappear from reservoir.

I see. Well i'll give it a few days. My problem is I can't really get in those corners at all without damaging the reservoir.
Its not a big deal right now though.

                        Thanks for the suggestions!

Wouldn't fit. The best I can do is a q-tip and even then it doesn't reach in that corner. Harsh chemicals it is.
