Looking to replace my 680 Sli setup with a single card, mostly playing WoW, diablo 3, some bf3/4 and I may pick up titanfall at some point. Main display is 1440p.
Thoughts or ideas?
Cheers,
Chris

No real reason as I may end up downsizing my current system from the M8 to something a little smaller and was hoping to hit close to a 680 SLI FPS numbers with a single card

Overclocked 780TI or possibly an overclocked R9 290X will be closest to 680 SLi numbers, or if you can fit it, a 690.
But it also depends on the resolution you run at. If you are generally pushing a 24" monitor at 1080p or 1920x1200 the differences between a single 680 and dual are not that big, and you can get great performance from a 670 on up. It's when you start to raise resolution and run a high resolution 27" or 30" that the SLi/Crossfire setup will really show major gameplay differences at high quality settings.
The 6xx series is the best nVidia generation in a long time IMHO. I think the 670 and 680 cards are pretty awesome in terms of performance-per-watt. I felt that the 760 and 770 are not as efficient.
Alternatively there are some pretty kick-@$$ MicroATX cases for water-cooling configurations these days like the Arc Mini R2 (360x240mm rad support) Corsair 350D (twin 240mm or slim 280+240mm support) or the upcoming Fractal Design Node 804 which looks very promising. Even in regular ATX there are some nice cases like the Arc Midi R2 which also supports 240+240mm radiators or something from NZXT if you aren't looking to change motherboards to a smaller form factor.
These days things are kinda funny when you can fit a GTX 690 in a Mini ITX case like a Corsair 250D or Bitfenix Prodigy/Phenom/Colosuss Mini ITX

It would be a no brainer if I was running a 1080P display. but since I made the jump to 1440p it might be a bit harder to get what I want out of a single card, hell even BF4 was choppy when I was playing last nightwith both 680s running at 1200core

So I have a lead on a 290x for a good price, it was slightly used for coin mining. Now I don't know anything about coin mining, how hard is it on the gpu?

Not overclocked but usually run 24 / 7 so can't be that good for it. Wait a bit and a couple of the guys that run these rigs will be able to tell you better !
