  • RPG General Talk Thread

Hi everyone. There seemed to be some good response to my request for 3d printing in every aspect but actually getting things printed Figured be nice to share our experiences and projects here in the Off Topic. After playing a lot in my teens and early 20s, I didn't play much after that. Recently I picked up a game called Hero Kids and have gotten my kids (5 and 7) hooked on playing pen and paper rpgs with me. They love it! We haven't missed a week in the three months since we started.

The game comes with paper miniatures you can cut out and use, but after a couple games of that I thought - this will not do - and used it as an excuse to start a new hobby. After a free painting tutorial at a nearby Games Workshop store (where I spent $155 on figures and paints afterwards...) I started our collection of miniatures.

Of course, playing with all these nice figurines on printed paper maps is terrible, so soon I'm going to start getting in to making terrain for my kids to play on.

Share what ya got! I'm excited to see what everyone else has done and to hear about their adventures.

If you want really choice miniatures, go here:

      https://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones

ships from Texas, but I've gotten most of my deliveries within a weekish.
most mini are a nice rubbery white, easy to paint.
some of the older sets are pewter and need a primer before painting.

but, you can't beat Citadel paints, spendy, but very good quality.

        Nice stuff!

Kids have a birthday party in Quebec City for a few hours on Sunday, so I'm taking a couple of those open source STI files to get printed at the library. To see how it works. Either way, at $0.20 per mini I won't be complaining if they're little more than markers I'll add some photos once it's been done.

Well either the 3D printer at the library can’t do that detail, the models were too detailed, or the person operating didn’t know how to set it so fine, but basically the printing failed . It got hung up trying to do the legs with the small amount of material and the nozzle got clogged/covered up.

I do have 4 nice new purple 1” tokens so that’s something.

I also found out that Wednesdays and Sundays are rarely busy so going to go back again after making some changes to the models and when I can hang around for the entire 4 hours the media lab is open.

That's wild. Nah gonna use Blender to modify some of the open licence ones.

Finally was able to make a figurine. Rather than try to fix the ones I found I made one from scratch from the Hero Kids game we play. It’s an earth elemental. I had to simplify a couple things but the kids won’t care not bad for 50 minute of modelling.

Unfortunately a library card at this library costs $120 per year between that and the gas it costs to get there it makes more sense to just save up for my own 3D printer. I’ll have to upload pictures from home since it seems I don’t know how from mobile.

You think so? That'd be a pretty cool home based business. I was worried there'd be too much competition out there.

(really need to figure out something to do, not as much in my field here, especially without speaking the language very well)
