I recently upgraded my stereo amp in my living room from a 20w x2 amp to a 300w x2. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08CJZGT6H?...roduct_details

anyways it gets pretty warm just sitting on all the time, so when I turn the PC off I also turn off the amp. this gets pretty annoying so I as thinking of using a relay spliced into the power cable using the PC as a signal. is this a bad idea? I've done it in cars but never in my living room.

After getting that amp I liked the improvement in sound so much I upgraded my gaming PC with this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BL91YV4M?...roduct_details

a tube amp with built in headphone amp. (currently using a separate DAC headphone amp from the speakers and the change in sound was annoying switching between the two) I also managed to get some Polk bookshelf speakers from the 70s or 80's for free (I 'stole' them from a garbage pile and the MDF on the bottoms are warped from water, but they sell for over 200) and I was having a lot of fun playing around with the EQ. the tubes(?) sound different than the digital based stereo amps. both the 20w and 300w had a similar profile, I just had to crank it to hear the 20w. the tubes also take a minute to warm up, and apparently need replacing every few years. it also gets a little warm but not as much . but the sound on those bookshelf speakers! its like your sitting in front of the band. having trouble placing them though, they are huge for PC speakers.

curious what other people use for speaker set ups?
