  • 12U Watercooling Case - What!?!

I haven't posted in a while. I haven't had much time with the birth of our second and last child... Most of the regulars on DazMode Forum from the past two years will remember the constant changes and upgrades to my 800D. Hey what happened to the Admiral Contest? Anyway, here's something I have been trying to get done for like two months now:

I'm waiting on a few parts and a UV light or two and the next syncronized napping session of da boys. Hopefully soon so I can get this thing up and running. Should run pretty cool with two doubles, three triples, 3 655s, on 1/2"-3/4". (Yeah, yeah. Overkill. I just don't part with my old parts too quickly.) I'll list full specs later. Mostly all parts from my 800D + a new one here and there.

    Until completion...............

you could probably even go just fanless with that many rads, or just get one bigger fan for ultra silence

      Great to see you back!

I'm actually looking for extracting necessary data from scraps I have left from hacking attack, so I can get names of people in contest. I need to put this shame to rest!

        Welcome back MisterMom

Not too sure of a couple of things (from the pics)...1) What case are you using (or is it just an old filing cabinet you had laying around)...2) Looks to me like your trying to build your own version of an air conditioner (for your PC?).

Just kidding...looking forward to more updates from your latest project

I said it before (in the old forums), and I'll say it again..." Not your fault TFC hasn't produced the new line of radiators, s**t happens "

I could probably have put four 180s or 230s on the top in push or pull, but fanless never. Well maybe in winter with all of the rads out the window and a bit of anti-freeze

No shame Daz. The contest got a lot of people posting some really cool builds and I for one got a lot information and ideas for things that I built or modded. TFC should just go back to making those sweet Monstas (a bit cheaper "$" though), or make the Admirals out of copper/brass.

This is a 12U server rack chassis. All the mods are done by me. Mostly drill, jigsaw, and roundback file. There wasn't a hole in this before. I gave up on hole saws. I killed two of them on this. Its all 1.0-1.8~2.0mm steel. -------- The air conditioner thing could be said about Mountain Mods, XSPC H1, DangerDen Double Wides, etc. This case is actually going to save space in my 28-30C upstairs uninsulated computer room (major heat wave this week) . Man, oh man! Why can't it be late fall or early sping all year?

Hey MisterMom, congrats on the birth of your second child!

I keep my rigs in the basement where the "Man Cave" is a cool 17.4 degrees celcius! Personally I hate the summer - at least the high temps and even higher humidity. I could kiss the individual who invented air conditioning!!

Well; here in Calgary, we may not have high humidity, but living in an older (wood) apartment building, it tends to really hold whatever heat it can. So even if it only hits 22 degrees Celsius, my apartment will hit 25 - 27 degrees inside.

I know there's "portable" air conditioners I can buy; but given the choice between a $350 air conditioner or a better PC component ( or more water cooling parts ), the PC components usually win out and I suffer through another hot summer :p

                      Main components
                      -----------------------------

Asus P9x79 Pro (I could never use all of the features of the Rampage)

                      I7 3930K (4.8GHz w/ .45 Voltage offset + Speedstep)

xFx HD6990 + Sapphire HD6970 Trifire (I run both at 925/1425 w/ no volt mod) I'm waiting until DX12 cards come out or I burn these things out.

                      32gb 2133MHz G.Skill 9-11-10-28 2T (Can run same timings at 2300 for benching)

Silverstone Zeus 1200W Power supply (with 95A single rail switch activated)

Silent Blue 500W PS (about 7 years old, still runs 26 fans and two of 3 pumps)

                      Watercooling
                      ----------------------
3 x Swiftech MCp655-B Pumps (2 on EK Dual loop top in series)

EK Dual Loop Top with 2 60mm Multioption Tube sections + 2 Multioption Bottoms as Tops

                      2 XSPC RX360 Rads
                      1 Feser 360 Extreme
                      1 XSPC RX240
1 Feser 120 Extreme (I went with a single so I could mount the res/pumps in front)

                      Bitspower compression 45s, 90s, & Ys & fat-barbs + m-m & temp sensors & plugs
                      Feser compression fittings & 45s

                      2 Delrin Fillports

                      EK 6990 nickel/plexi
                      EK 6970 v2 nickel/acetal

27 Coolermaster Sickle Flow 2000rpm 69.69cfm (these are pretty darned quiet and push a ton of air at a very low voltage) 18 in push/pull on triples

9 fan shrouds (old fans with the centers cut out) on triple rads

Sunbeam Rheobus Extreme 6 channel 30W/channel fan controller

Scythe Kaze Master 4 fan controller (only used for monitoring temps and pump speeds)

Various extension cables, fan blocks, CCFL & UV lights, custom cut nuts & bolts, etc.

                      ------------------------------------------------

Here are a few update pics. I still have a few things to do. I need a new camera too.

1 - Fix small leak problem at top cap of EK Multioption Res. I guess I'll just run the tube down the outside of mother board tray so tubing fit past the single rad.

2 - Solder power and reset buttons. Power button will have power L.E.D. Reset button will be lit by HDD L.E.D.

3 - Mod old Corsair side panel for 3 x 5.25" bays. It fits perfectly as a front on this case!!

                      4 - A bit more cable management

I probably missed about half of the things I wanted to post. I will update later with some temps. Until then......

Interesting build. Is your tube is UV Blue? Feels like systems missing a little bit of color and I would put some color tube to spice it up.

Of course this is just my personal preference

Yeah, it's Clear/UV Blue. When I take pictures with the flash, the tubing always looks clear and it seems that the two UV CCFLs (12" & 15") don't feel like lighting up more than half way.

I was actually considering running 50/50% Ethylene Glycol/Distilled + Feser UV Black Dye. It would probably look cool through the CPU & GPU blocks. I don't know what color I'll come up with mixing UV black and chartreuse though.

I also have a purple CCFL to highlight the fans on the triples.

That looks alright, I guess, if you don't look under and see the mess of cables from two non-modular power supplies and like five multi-strand extensions.

It's freaking hot in my computer room again!
First temp is ambient room temp, second and third are coolant temps, and the fourth is case temp from the jumble of wires below the motherboard tray. This case seems to have pretty good air flow through even with all of the filters I put on the intake fans.

Sorry my posts are so jumbled and non-linear. I have to rush through them everytime!!

Considering the temperature in your room, the other temps look pretty good.

In my system; if the room temp is 25 degrees, the motherboard/ CPU temps range about 7 - 10 degrees hotter. For example; it's currently 25 degrees in my room now (as of posting time), my CPU temp is sitting at 32 degrees (according to Core Temp program)...not the greatest for an AMD system, but I haven't been able to get the temps down further

                            BTW...nice looking build MisterMom
