8 hasn't been received too well, hence the tinkering. Every os have had over the years has worked for me, still want the new ones though.

It could be bad analogy, but it killing me that software development is the only industry that it is ok to sell defective product and customer even must agree that it may work not as advertised.__________________________________________________

I've been on it for a few days:
The start menu needs to be bigger or the option should be there to make it bigger. I can make text and icons bigger, but the Start menu remains the size.
The search and app icons in the task bar can't be removed or changed around, that option needs to be there.
And the odd thing is that when I mouse over to the right of the screen, the charms doesn't come out _ not that I used it _ it seems to be broken or did they remove it ?
Have to make a report to Microsoft...
EDIT:
Build 9879 seems to be key, I am just downloading it now, but apparently one can change those icons in the task bar.
And the start menu is bigger.

grab the start menu on the corner and make it as big as you like, just like resizing a window

My usual strategy is to wait for at least a year after a new operating system is out. Tons of patches will be in effect the first six month after launch, usually followed by a service pack.
By then most of the bugs will be sorted out, alongside manufacturers releasing drivers and software that will actually be stable.
I refuse to be a beta tester and that's what most people will be during the first few months after the introduction of any new operating system, windows or not.

ya allot of people wait till after the first service pack, me have nothing that is real important or what is is backed up, so my os's are disposable so to speak. Still keep these new ones on a separate drive, unplug all my other drives during install as windows loves to mess things up during the install and toast your other partitions trying to fix things later idea. Linux is another one that likes to do this. Keep a cheap ssd for playing with.
