  • CPU Block Fins Clogged with Plasticizer?

Hey all, I just had a question for you guys.

I've been using an extremely old block for years now (it sucks, but I'm too broke to upgrade). Lately I've noticed my thermals have really tanked, and after draining and cleaning out my loop, its clear to see that the tubing I've been using has severely degraded in quality, and potentially leeched plasticizer into the loop. I was wondering if this could account for the sudden drop in thermal performance. For the record, the loop generally idled at around 36-38C and did not go over 60C under load. Now its idling around 41-48C and will hit 81C under load.

For posterity, this is the block I'm stuck with.

    Any ideas?

Take system and blocks apart clean thoroughly, replace tubing, replace fluid carry on.

      ... or buy new kit

for sure, some Darkside tube will be essential.
If you can, open up all the blocks, take some pics so we can all see how gross it is.
then give her a nice scrubbing in the bath of your choosing.

the rads will need attention too.
