  • Controlling Darkside RGB strips with motherboard

    Hello,

I own a few of these (https://www.dazmode.com/store/produc...strip-sleeved/) and I was wondering if I can control them with the RGB header on my MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon.

Attached is the JLED1 header explanation as shown in the mobo's manual.

My plan is to use 20AWG wire with dupont connectors and split each header's pin in two to power 2 strips in parallel. I'm not sure what connector and channels those strips have though. Is it (as mobo's header suggests) 12V, R, G and B signals on a 4 pin male fan connector ?

    Would my plan work ?

Should be able to buy the Asus or Gigabyte RGB adapter cable to control them from your MSI board.

Check out your MSI manual and the Asus and Gigabyte manuals to check out the pin positions are in the order you need.

      The asus one is:

[12v][G][R][B] which looks like it matches the MSI one.

Can't I just sleeve on my own like I suggested ? I just need to know the pin order on the strip.

Sure you can. Just need the right connectors and pins, or the ability to unpin and re-pin one of the adapters.

it looks like the Darkside ones are:

              [12v][B][R][G]

That connector requires the proper adapter to work with your motherboard.
Hence the reason I said to check the pin order on your board. To make sure it matches either the Asus or Gigabyte pin out patterns.
Darkside has two adapters for RGB to work with Asus or Gigabyte pin outs.
                Asus: 12V - G- R - B
                Gigabyte: 12V - G - R - B - W

Some gigabyte only 4 pins, other 5 pins

I dont have 5 pin adapters, but you can jam 4pin in
