  • First Liquid Build got many questions

Going to do a liquid cooling loop in my pc soon, but never done one before.
Going to buy all of my components from Daz., thus why im asking for help here =]
    My PC.
    Cosmos II Case
Asus z77 Sabertooth mobo - won't be cooling it
    i5-3570k
gtx 590 - will be replaced with GTX Titan hydro coper or going to wait for GTX 790, havn't decided yet.

    I know the very basics.
My loop will be res.>pump>240 radiator>cpu>360 radiator>res., with EVGA Titan hydro coper/GTX 790 added when it releases.
My questions are. What is a good brand/model for d5 pump, radiator and a cpu block for i5-3570k? Which ones are best in your opinion. Within a reasonable price.
What tubing size is most common and best to work with?
I am assuming you need fitting compressions on both sides of the tube on all the tubes?
Whats quick disconnects used for? Do i need them?

Got a Cosmos II case and so far, this type of reservoir, is my pick.

Last but not least, how to add drainage with a valve to this whole thing? =]
Sorry for so many questions, but want to get this right.

    to Dazmode

    Nice case choice

D5 is a D5 just a sticker makes them different
most cpu blocks offer similiar performance more about asthetics
I always used 3/4 tubing but went 5/8 on my latest and like it alot is a little easier to bend
fittings on both ends of tubing runs
quick disconnects are great if you plan on removing parts like mobo tray
Drain works best at lowest part of the loop and valve gives you nice control of it

      Q) What is a good brand/model for d5 pump, radiator and a cpu block for i5-3570k?
A)D5 and the DDC pumps are all made by Lainge pumps . The ones Daz has are the same as any other D5 or DDC pumps out there. These are simply rebranded. I like either of these pumps. If your smart you'll get a variable speed version if your planning on running power straight from your PSU.

      Q) Which ones are best in your opinion. Within a reasonable price.
      A) I have both types the best for you may not be the best for someone else. I like the DDC pumps but many can't seen to install them so they run silent. Other have no problem. The D5's are the most dependable pumps on the market from what I've been reading.

Q)What tubing size is most common and best to work with?
      A) I like 3/8 I.D 5/8 O.D. tube. It's small enough the fittings don't usually have any trouble fitting the blocks, and thick enough it doesn't collapse easily.
Many like 1/2 I.D 3/4 O.D. so they have the MAX flow with least restrictions. But the fittings can be bulky.
3/8 I.D 1/2 O.D. is for people that like to sleeve they're tube. Don't have tight bends in the tube.
7/16 I.D 5/8 O.D. is fairly popular size as well. Some people use this with 1/2 barb fittings and no clamp with tube. However you have to take it off with a knife.

      Q) I am assuming you need fitting compressions on both sides of the tube on all the tubes?
You need a fitting yes, but it can be either a barb fitting or a compression fitting depending on what your using.

      Q) Whats quick disconnects used for? Do i need them?
These are for quickly disconnecting part of you loop. Basically if you have a QDC's on your block you won't need to drain your system to remove the block. Just take the QDC's apart. Can be used to setup fill/drain or flushing system as well.

      Q) Last but not least, how to add drainage with a valve to this whole thing? =]
You'll have to work this part out later in the loop. Until you have the main loops design figured out you won't be able to properly plan the drain. However valve drains do need to be at the lowest point of the loop to work well.

If you're planning on using QDCs in the system I'd skip the drain completely...just grab a couple extra QDCs and they can be used to drain the loop quite easily.

Thanx for all the replies so far!

Is Res+Pump combo any good? or is it better to go stand alone?

This is how approximately i want my Cosmos to look like when im done with it.
          Minus the mobo cooling.

              That's a nice system he's built there.

So he's using a tube res so that means your pretty much on stand alone. I didn't see a very good shot of his pump but when he showed the RPM for it (4380), it made me think it was a DDC pump.
Pump and Res choices are the hardest to make for a build imho. Best I can say it to take a good hard look a a lot of build and build logs. See what others have done and whats available. Always read the manual via a PDF document before you buy it. Take your time with these choices. Post your choices here to get feed back it your getting the right parts that will match up. We all like helping others spend there money.

Triple radiator will do. Fan controller is optional, in case you want to lower noise at the expense of few degrees.

D5 is quieter then HDD, so no worries.

If you can fit longer reservoir it will be easier to bleed the system, although does not give you any performance advantage.

Careful here, because it requires BP top too!
