  • First watercooled build, opinions on set up and components please :)

Well first off, just received my 3770k today to upgrade my 3570 non k, Case is a NZXT Phantom 410, GPU is MSI 7970 OC (reference design)

My plan in the setup is to go rez > pump > 240 Rad > CPU > 120 Rad > GPU > rez
plan to have a drain in between the pump and the rez

so far the list i have gathered is :

Cross-Flow Slim High Density Dual 120mm Radiator XSPC EX240 ( need the thin rad for clearance

    EK-CoolStream RAD XT120 - Single 120mm Radiator

    EK-Multioption X3 RES 150

EK-DCP 4.0 High Performance Water Pump

    EK-Supremacy - Plexi Copper

EK-DCP PUMP Mounting Bracket & Silencer Kit

Mayhems Aurora - Galaxy Purple Coolant Concentrate

    3/8"ID - 1/2"OD Straight Compression Fitting - Silver

    Feser Tube Hose - 3/8" ID - 1/2" OD - CLEAR (1') - NOT UV ( i think i need different size tubing)

XSPC Sleeved 3mm Dual LED Module - UV

Razor 7970 Full Cover Block (new style)

    45 Degree Double Rotary Adapter M/F G1/4 - Silver BP-45R2D

45 Degree High Flow Rotary Adapter M/F G1/4 - Silver (for CPU fittings)

    2-way L Block Crossconnect Adapter - Silver BP-LMB

3-way Splitter, T Block Crossconnect Adapter - Silver BP-TMB ( for drain split)

Any suggestions on the set up and components, very much appreciated.

    to the Daz Zone
Great list of parts to get started with. Sounds like you've been doing a fair bit of planning.
Not really big on the Aurora coolant your choosing. It tends to gunk up the blocks and rads with the particles used to create the pearl in the res. It's mostly for shows and the like. You'll get better performance from distilled water and Daz protector.

      ^ I totally agree with Hooded. ^

There's a build log started by brechan69 outlining his issues with the aurora coolant. He went through hell and back because of that stuff.

Welcome to the forums and I can't wait to see some pics of your rig!

Thanks guys! The guy i bought the processor off actually said that too, he just runs the distilled water. I have had to do a fair bit of planning due to my limited space, thought about buying a new case but i like this one too much ! As for some other questions what size of tubing would you recommend for the fittings i have in my list. Last thing is would you recommend getting better thermal paste (arctic silver) never used the stuff that comes with the blocks.

Aurora only last 2 weeks or so. This is show liquid.

If you want Purple, take easy route of already pre-mixed F1 liquid.

Feser Dyes are good, proven product.

If your fittings are 3/8 ID you have no choice but to use 3/8 ID tubing. Personally I prefer MX-4 because it's easy to use, proven to work and is not conductive.

Because your using 3/8 id 1/2 od compression fitting you must use 3/8 id 1/2 od tubing. If you were using barb fittings the od wouldn't matter. I prefer 3/8 id 5/8 od tube because it is much more resilient to collapsing. However many like the 1/2od because it can be sleeved.
