  • PSU sleeving

    Guys,

I get tired of people asking me how much sleeving they need to sleeve PSU, so I'm going to make a video.

As I HATEsleeving and I have limited experience with it. I'd liek to double check with you on what overhead you use over sleeve length's exact measurement?

Also, is there any shrinkage of 1/8" (2mm) sleeve length when typical 18awg wire is get sleeved?

    Thanks for tips!

I always cut my sleeve a little longer than required and final trim it after a test fit.
Depending on the size of wire(s) and sleeve the lengths will vary greatly.
Only way I get a perfect fit, is to test fit each piece as I go.
Also the lengths will be different if your trying to do heatshrinkless or not.

On average, you'll need about 100' of 2mm sleeve for just 1 PSU to do individual wires.

I second all that hooded wrote, my 2mm shrinks after being put on a standard psu wire and the best way i found to make it work, is to put it on wire and then cut it. The total length to buy will vary based on the psu model as they don't all have same length, i would say maybe +5 to 10% of total length to compensate for stretching and the possibility of missing a few, this is just for the power supply. it's also very helpful to know all other accessories and hardware you will install (fan controller, fans etc.) in the build prior to ordering.

tip: I start with longer length cable then move to shorter length so i can recycle some of the sleeve i made errors on. Figured this may be worth mentioning.

I always use specs from web page

        Ex:
        Silverstone

        24 pin = 60cm, 24 x 60cm=1440cm
        Pcie = 60cm, 8 x 24 x 6= 2880
        8 pin cpu 60cm = 8 x 60=480
        Sata and molex= 45+5+5+5+5. 4 x 65=260 x 4 =1040

        Total 5840cm
192' feet of sleeving plus 10%
I always use this and its pretty close every time

I don't think anybody would sleeve any extra unused PCI cables

great job, just bought 70feet and did the 24 pin the 2x6 pin and have some wires black almost got through my 70 feet maybe a few feet left. i have to admit i may have made them longer then need as i when about 1.5 inch in the power supply to make sure i could hold the sleeve properly. i think 20% more is a good number. great job DAz
