  • Speed's Build named "Xp99d"

    Hey Guys,
This will be my first water cooling build ever! Ive done a few mods in the past, in the days when you could only get that white yellowish color cases. I will post a pic of the case I modded in 2003. I find it funny that now you can buy cases supporting 2 PC's... I did it over tens years ago I stuffed a dual AMD server on the top plus single gaming system with an ATI 9700 on the bottom. I have thought about water cooling over the years but it was never easy to get parts in Canada do I always said F it. I was watching a hardware canucks review of the Caselabs S5 that bought me to dazmode.

Now to my build "Xp99d" named it after me "Speed" with x99 in there since ill be building on the x99 platform.

My design goals for this are small foot print, must be able to support SLI with a slot for a sound card.

I am planing on building out of the Lian Li PC-A51WX. Its a small ATX case with a back to front air flow design. its going to be a tight fit in this case. In order to ensure I even have a chance to do SLI in this case I need a PS that is 140mm, for this reason I chose the semi modular Cooler Master v750. I am going to put a 240 in the top of the case and a 140 rad in the front. I also plan on using bits power fittings and crystal link hard tube.

    PC Parts list
    MSI x99 Gaming 7 (tested)
    i7 5820k (tested)
16 Gig DDR4 Adata red (tested)
Asus Strix 980 (one for now, tested)
    Intel 730 480gig (tested)
    Cooler master v750 (ordered)
    Case Lian Li PC-A51WX (ordered)
    Creative X-Fi Titanium HD (tested)
BitFenix Spectre pro led 120x4 (tested)
BitFenix Spectre pro led 140 (tested)

Since this is my first build I spent about a month + watching videos and planning. I knew I wanted to hard tube but had a rough time planning the routing and fittings. I drew it out on paper a few times but it really clicked for me when I used Google Sketchup. I drew out my case using exact measurements of the parts and case. I did make one mistake and made my case about 2 cm to long because I used the outside depth from Lian li forgetting that the front panel is about 2 cm. Its OK it just means it will be a little tighter then what you see in my drawings.

I will post shortly with the water cooling parts I have ordered and hope to start building it by the weekend. Ill probably run into all kinds of things I didn't think of... buts that part of the fun.

I still have to sleeve PCI-E cables but I am going to cut them shorter first. I am also going to have to cut the hole bigger so I can fit all the non modular cables in. Tomorrow ill be taking out the dremel tool.
Any ideas on how I should tie the power supply cables neatly? velco ties?

thats a lot of hard work Speed. well done.

cable combs are all the rage for neat and tidy.
but behind the scenes I would use simple cable ties, or velcro like you say.

Any reason you went with Spectre Pro fans other than looks? They're garbage when it comes to performance.

Just looks + I had 3 on hand before I started. What looks good and performs better?

Nice work on sleeving that PSU, looks great so far.
I agree with Bungz, the cable combs are the easiest and nicest looking way to keep all your wires inline. Just look at snef's latest build to see them in action.
Velcro done like Phanteks cable straps is some of the nicest and easiest way to tie down your wires imho.

I have 8 Vector Pro 140's 5 of them on rads and I love them. The 140's seem to spec out better than the 120's do for some reason.

                    And to the community Speed!

Looks are subjective so I couldn't tell you which fans look good. As for good performing fans...

I shortened the PCI-E wires and ran all the wires from inside the PSU. Before they had the six pin connected via 8 wire from the PSU. PSU is tested and working well after my work.

                            Nice case, speed!

I love the WRX version with the red/black accents, also because it has the same name as my car

                            Nice job on the PSU.

Just ignore Cyclops, he's just looking for a job designing fans. Ha ha J/K

The only other fans that look as good as these IMHO are the Cougar CFD 120 or 140 LED red fans, but strangely enough, when off, they are orange.

                              Got it done!

The Tubing didn't pan out as I planned but that was done without even having seen the case. Some of the angels are not perfectly 90 but its a start. Really happy with those darkside RBG and cable sleeves.
If I had to do it again id go with white pastel.
