  • Define S build

The P5 is cool, but it is not for me. pci riser only worked half the time and I was getting annoyed, I also underestimated the amount of sound that comes off components that a simple case wall will cancel out. So, silence in the form of the define S. Alas, I would be remiss to omit the pictures from my failed P5.

I've got some of the parts re-painted, (observe the 1000W psu that I bought for it's 10 year warrenty, only to void by modding! ) and some parts I need to paint but am too lazy.

Deciding between keeping the front filter, or putting more fans on the front, since you can't put fans under the front bezel and keep the filter.

6600k and 3000mhz DDr4. I was overclocking the ram and getting that to work, still don't know how fast this chip will go.

I actually have another riser but to remove the hard tube in order to get to it I was already draining the loop etc. And there is some coil whine off the components that annoys me, I forgot the case is there to dampen the sound as well! So I built it, it looks nice, time to tear down! This comp was in my room so I often have it on while trying to sleep, and I like the simple look of the fractal cases. No 5.25" though for my fan controller!

And thanks, thats what comes from using the $20 a can duplicolor instead of the cheapo carp. And sanding, and the expensive primer, haha.

Good choice. Economical and highly WC capable case.

You could always omit the front fan filter and just by some Silverstone 120/140mm fan filters for the front fans if you want to put them between the front of the metal chassis and the front panel.

Dmitry from HWC said there is around 10-15mm clearance in the front, which is more than enough to keep the middle fan from getting too starved for air.

                Looking forward to this, Necro!

                Nice motherboard

Thanks 10e. I do like the silverstone filter, have a bunch on my 760t and I will definitely use them again on this build eventually.

I recently peeled the plastic layer off the chipset heatsink so you know its brand new.

So the backplate is so tall it wont fit under the ram slots on this board. Shouldn't effect performance since they are both 3.0 x 16 slots. I also sanded and polished the aluminium backplate.

Looking lovely man!!! was gonna say as long as you dont have anything in the first slot u should still get x16 from the second slot on that board.

Lol thanks, I originally panicked and went looking at newegg for something else since in the manual it was listed as 16x/8x, but upon closer inspection it is as you say and as long as I don't use something else in the top slot it is a 16x. I'll probably use some more lanes for a m.2 SSD in the future.

thanks, it looked nice but more of a showpiece build. I thought looks > everything, but I was wrong! There is a reason most people use cases!

Not a Thermalfake fan anymore, thought I would give them a go but the customer services was bollocks.

You need to pick up the rad to make a gpu loop for your son's comp!

Also have 11x of these coming in for the corners, I really didn't want to bend any more tubes. Sorry Daz, couldn't wait!

I feel like I might be copying Red Line, EZ. Let me know if it gets too similar!
