Thanks Nass & FF. I guess we have to blame Daz for the attachments not working. JK

So, silence in the form of the define S. Alas, I would be remiss to omit the pictures from my failed P5.
Hmmm, very unfortunate. And I mean that. I am not being a smart ass. Well, maybe a tiny bit. If I remember correctly, I believe I had mentioned this in another thread here. I was basically ridiculed for the comment. Poster said "well the case was designed to do so". Well guess what? Your issue proved my point. Just because the case enables this configuration, it doesnt necessarily mean it is a good idea.

This is nothing new. It is actually very common. Like I said in that other thread as well, the only reason I would use a PCI-E riser, is if the build warranted it such as a ultra-slim powerhouse. Even then, I would rethink it and look for other alternatives. Hell, although not as common, an SLI/Crossfire bridge can be susceptible to the same condition, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).

As far as ditching components, the riser is the only thing I would lose. Those are some sweet components.

EDIT (forgot to mention: I could be wrong about the EMI. The riser could be of poor quality (possible being it is a TT product). You may be able to find a shielded cable of higher quality. That may alleviate the problem, but that is like treating a symptom, not curing the cause.

Shielded risers are prohibitively expensive. If bad memory serves, the good 3M ones are over $100 each. The P5 issue was cheap risers, not EMI. I haven't had issues with mine, but the only thing I've run on it is Furmark (no games), so I don't count there. I'd probably have issues if I tried to game on it.

People have been using risers forever, you just need QUALITY ones, especially to do PCIE 3.0 x 16. I've heard the lower quality risers don't have issue with PCIE 2.0, and it was only the jump to 3.0 that highlighted the issue, but that's hearsay. I just read that on a forum somewhere, so take that with a LARGE grain of salt.

Yes, thanks! They run great. I feel like everything runs more smoothly than with my previous cards as well. Getting 75fps on GTA5 at 3440x1440.

Thanks Daz! The Darkside LED really helps with the pictures!

I might be changing out that run when my next order gets here, I bought the EK extender to fit in the top of the GPU connector.

Yeah and thanks again, I was able to finally get rid of my 290's so in the end the upgrade didn't cost me that much. Only problem now is the use indicator led's are set to blue so I'm gonna have to take em out remove the backplates and flip the switches over to red.

Also I got some of the red combs Daz, can't wait to see how they look!
