Lake Effect (WIP)

First WC build since May 2013. Having allot of trouble deciding on a colour theme/name, but after 52 cm of new snow over night the other week: Lake Effect.

Still deciding on my exact parts list, but what I have so far:

Case: Thermaltake Core P5
MB: Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 5
CPU: TBD (Probably i7 8700k)
GPU: 1080ti (exact model TDB, finding these things in stock has been problematic, looking to use a Phanteks 1080ti RGB Titanium
RAM: TBD (Probably Corsair Vengence RGB [White], but (so far) the white ones don't hit the speed I'm looking for).
SSD: m.2 Samsung EVO 960
Rad: HWL Black Ice Nemesis 480 GTX - White
Fans: TDB (Probably EK Vader EVO 120ER White)
Pump: D5 PWM - Bitspower white mod.
Res/Pump Combi: Bitspower 250 White or acrylic
Fillings: Bitspower White 12mm HD compression.
Tube: 12/10mm hard acrylic.
Dye: Mayhem's Non-stain deep blue.
Still a work in progress. Case came in the mail today, damaged, had to send it back.

Already have the MB and Rad.

Any thoughts?

Case is going to need to be stripped and painted. I know they make a "snow" version, but that includes a bunch of tempered glass that is just going to get in my way.

Daz, the Darkside pump dress kits (for D5) - do you have any in white? It's not coming up as an option, and I'm sure I'd seen it listed before... or am I just hallucinating.

Sorry about no update in a while, too much work, not enough play. Also having trouble sourcing some of the parts, particularly a reasonably priced video card.

Had to return the P5, got sent a new one, started painting before I really had my final thoughts in mind. So, started as a black case, painted white. Found the white case with the white rad, and white res just a little too much white. Going back to the name "Lake Effect", ordered a metallic/pearl effect vinyl wrap which looked like frosted water. Wrap arrived the other day, looked good, not as good as I was hoping, but good. Installed the wrap, heat shrunk over the case, gave me a really nice clean look, but honestly looked like crap (sorry, no pics... didn't survive long enough). Lost the wrap, and dug out the paint sprayer. End result ( three different coats of different shades of blue, with a (purposely uneven) white tinted clear coat, got close to the look I wanted... even though most of it is going to get hidden.

So, quick trial fit: .

Trying to figure out if I want to use the riser setup, which gives you a better angle of view of the gpu, or forgo the riser for potentially better performance... of course, still need the gpu.

Getting GPU is a pain at any price. Build looks good so far.

Any one have any experience with PCIe 3.x riser cables? Any issues, or things to avoid? Just trying to determine my tube routing, I think it would look better with the riser, but, at the same time, this system has to work at the end of day.

I think there's good risers and bad.
and Tt had issues if you look back to the build Daz did last year.
supposedly, Tt have fixed it. EZ-G can likely confirm.

The stock riser that comes with the P5 is trash not going to lie. The TT premium riser however is top notch but a price comes with it.

$1000+ video card, ~$75 cable. All things considered, not that pricey.... at least currently :-)

I have used one with my 1080 and no issue with it. The card was running 3.0X 16 and all was fine. I want to sell it because I have no more use of it, I installed my card the normal way.
