  • Grey's Build Log

A week before Diablo III came out, my old computer died due to my silverstone powersupply failing.

It was a good excuse to dig out the old credit card and start a new build! As of right now, I have the computer up and running, but I am still acquiring some of the water cooling components.

Here's the list of my components:
    Main:
    CPU: AMD FX-8120
    MOBO: ASUS M5A97-EVO
    RAM: 4X 4GB Patriot G2 12800 Ram
    GPU: 2X HSI HD-6870 Crossfired
Storage Drive: 2tb 7200rpm Seagate barracuda
    SSD: 120GB Corsair Force GT
DVD: Samsung SH-222 (I haven't abandoned discs yet)
    PSU: Coolermaster 850W Silent Pro
    CASE: NZXT Switch 810

    Current Cooling:
CPU: Corsair H80 (stock aircoolers overheated constantly) /w Noctua NF-F12
    GPU: Stock

Planned Cooling: (subject to change as per my whim)
CPU:Bitspower Summit Last Second Change to EK Supremacy. (I guranteed good performer over an unknown one.)
    GPU: 2x 6870 EK-FC6870 - EN (Nickel) *back ordered*
Pump: DDC 3.1 Daz was out of stock. Got DDC 3.25 instead
    Radiators: 1x XSPC RX360 *purchased* 1 x XSPC RX240
Resevor: Custom 400mm FrozenQ Tube Res *purchased*

This was my original attempt at building this new computer in my old Thermaltake Tsunami case (loved that case)

How my computer is now (besides the additional of the second video card.)

My Goal is to keep this up to date with my progress. Comments, Ideas, Welcome.

First Off, this build needs a name! I might be calling it Ice Dragon. (If I end up doing what I'm planning) *Evil laugh*

Looks sweet! I'd throw in some black with some white accent sleeved cable extensions from DAZ i got black and red for mine and they look killer.

K, Its official now. I've now spent more money on water cooling then on the computer components. Made a "large" order with Daz, my rigs fate is now in your hands!

OMG, Daz has created another monster RFLMAO!!!

I can't remember the last time I spent as much money on my PC; let alone my car, I keep tellin' folks that water cooling is an addictive hobby

Between replacing a few GPU's (after getting thoroughly soaked in an unfortunate coolant leak); upgrading from barbs to compression fittings, getting more fittings than needed (and let's not forget the extra 4 or 5 ft. of tubing), my PC parts drawers are getting just a little bit over-stuffed.

(and I've only been doing this for just over a year)

I would love it if Daz could get in a few of these, would make my life much easier (and cheaper) if I didn't have to splurge just to water cool my GPU's...and I really don't want to go through the US to get a couple of 6870 blocks.

                  Hey brechan!

I needed two EK water blocks for my EVGA GTX560Ti 448's. Daz listed them as "discontinued" by EK had them in stock. One e-mail to Daz and who told me he would had them to his next order and a few short weeks later 2 of them were in stock! I assume he would do the same for you too.

My bad, I miss interpreted "back ordered" for "out of stock", sorry! :o

I am backordered with EK themselves. They said they are making a run in september. I'd try and get on that same run.

                              Its defiantely blue now.

I think it turned out pretty good. I had a lot of trouble at first and had to strip off all the black paint first. I guess since I did this one, I'll have to paint the other you are sending me.
