Grey finishes Loop Mark II or Grey buys wrong video card
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
So the good news or the bad news first?
I'll start with the good!
As my earlier postings show, I purchased 2 new EK 6870 blocks, EK bridge, and associated cover plates. I painted them a brilliant white, and was ready to install.
So I was all relaxed and ready to install. I took off cover off my old video cards and to my horror....
THEY WERE NON-REFERENCE (I did research and thought for sure they were reference, but I missed one digit in the model numbers and the boxes were identical)
So what does a watercooler engineer do? He starts hacking and slashing.
I might have got over zealous on the first one and accidently cut into the water chamber. Its a good thing that I was able to reseal it with marine epoxy, plastic putty, and silicone. (marine epoxy forms the base, plastic putty builds back up the acetal top and is extra filler, while silicone forms a rubber like seal).
So all in all, it is possible to make a non-referance card work. That is, if you are crazy and willing to take some risks!
