  • Silver kill coil

Hey fella's, my first post and wc build. I recently added an xtx 480 rad into the loop. I was using distilled water + swiftech hydrix additive on my first run. I ordered some silver kill coil from daz and re-filled my loop with distilled water, I shaped the silver kill coil like a spring big enough to almost not fit on my d5/reservoir. As soon as the silver coil hits the water, it literally disappeared out of sight. I was thinking it will stay at the bottom of the reservoir. I'm worried that the coil might gotten sucked into the pump and kill it. What is the best method/placement of the coil. I'll try to drain my loop again and try to see where my coil went to.

    WC parts...

Here's a pic of my setup...Just trying to get the hang of this madness

I hope to add another XTX 480 rad for passive cooling/silent oc'ing

    TIA,
    "Casper B!"

to the DazMode water cooling community.

I personally don't use a kill coil so couldn't say that best placement. I just use distilled water and DazMode Protector to prevent against algae and other micro organisms.

So your going to run 3 rads to cool just your cpu . LOL

Well, he did get his cpu to 57-60c @1.368v so imho not bad.

What was your cpu temp before you added 3rd rad Add2rad

id say most of us started cooling just one cpu.. those three rads will be an awesome thing for upgrading, or a terrible waste if not.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks, It's my first wc loop so it's not pretty heheh. Maybe someday, i'll add the 670's into the loop. I'm not quite confident adding those into the loop yet. Cooling the cpu for now is my testing ground.

With just the ex360 at 4.75ghz, I was hitting mid 70c's and required so much volts to stabilize. After adding the XTX 480, it dropped my temps tremendously and I was able to run lower vcore with the same oc. Really happy with the result.

I'd like to have as much headroom as possible.

Will we ever be able to purchase an alphacool monsta at Dazmode store?

          Cheers,

So welcome to the forums Sir!
Round here we mostly stick with Dazmode Protect and Distilled.
Keeps it simple in most loops.

No Alphacool products at Dazmode and I haven't heard any rumors that they would be coming either, sorry.

Hi bungwirez, Is that dazmode protect, the same stuff as ptnuke? I will pick up a bottle or 2 when I order another xtx 480 rad thanks.

"I wake up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat. As I gaze at my wc tech station, there's no monsta rad on there and to my disappointment. So I went back to sleep. I guess it was all in my dreams . " I hope to own a pair of monsta rads someday. It puts a big smile on my face each time someone post a picture of that rad on forums. They are so gorgeous and massive

Sorry bout that, i'm just simply fascinated with radiators just with big tower air coolers

                Hi Addicted2rad and welcome,

You are all over the map with coolants.

First of all it is not that easy to suck 250mm silver wire into the loop, so i would not worry much about it.

Second be careful with using different vendors products in same loop. If you want to switch to protector from Hydx, make absolutely sure you wash all your Hydrix or whatever you have there now with good flash. I would even connect system to tap water supply, then flash with distilled.. Better to have some minerals leftovers then chemical reaction.

Dazmode protect is complete set of chemicals mix, so nothing else is requited including silver coil.

But ya, what Daz says is very important. I would even argue that if you are changing coolants, you should change ALL your tube as well. Especially if you get into fancy colors and stuff.

Thanks for all the good advice folks, I'm going to do a re-flush this week then. I also manage to route the tube wrong from the ex360, the other tube is much longer than the other one lol. So it's safe to use tap water eh? I used life brand distilled water (I have 3 jugs of this stuff, can't stop buying them from shoppers drug mart) to flush out the hydrix from the loop, but I only used that hydrix coolant for 2 weeks or so. Also the 7/16 IN 5/8 OD tubing I ordered fits like a glove (I only use about a ft), I didn't have to use much force to fully lock them in with the compression fitting. But the tubing that came with the XSPC kits seems to have thicker OD. It takes some massive force to get that thing to grip and hard to fully tighten down

Gdesmo, thanks a lot for posting those pics bro, now I won't be able to sleep at night hehe

So folks, how much rad it would take to have 5C delta over ambient to cool a 5Ghz chip? Is it even possible?

                      Cheers,

Not showing off ! He wanted to see a little porn and I obliged ! Will show off in a few weeks though !

As long as you do a good flush of everything including the tubing you will be fine !

If you have enough distilled great. I just found that good deal of liquid is always trapped in the system, so few minutes flush with running water sound as better deal for me personally, assuming your tap water is not straight from the lake without filter.

No scheme last incarnation could run just below ambient with water temps at 14-16 c depending on humidity. Limiting factor was that I did not have mobo insulated because I could get the water down to 5-7 degrees at idle and approx 14- 16 at 4.8 with 1.31 volts. Have triple the cooling power available with slightly better block design for the build, Power needed will be pilfered from Mississauga area. LOL Bungs
